About Reiki Sessions

What you are now is what you have been, what you will be is what you do now.

~ Buddha

What is a Reiki session like?

You want to come to a Reiki session dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. You will normally lie on a massage table fully clothed, and usually you will be covered by a sheet or blanket. However, Reiki is so adaptable that you can receive it in almost any setting, including a chair or hospital bed, through casts and bandages, from another continent and in any state of health. Although music may be played, many clients enjoy the profound relaxation that silence can bring—also opening an avenue for any dialogue that might be desired.

Still and focused, using little or no pressure, the practitioner routinely follows a series of hand positions, but can place their hands randomly, for example over an injury or other area of discomfort. The energy is not guided by the practitioner, but has an innate wisdom to guide itself—it will give or take away the proper amount of energy needed to harmonize and balance the individual. The teachings say that the energy will flow through the practitioner, to you. You will receive the amount of energy you need to bring your mind and body into balance.

If you observe a Reiki session, such as at a Reiki clinic, it may not be apparent that anything was occurring. However, when you experience Reiki, you will know otherwise. While the effects vary from individual to individual, most people experience deep relaxation. You may perceive a tingling or pulsing sensation, a feeling of warmth and comfort, or you may even fall asleep. Results are sometimes subtle. Some recipients say they feel little during the session, but afterwards enjoy a sense of calm and well-being, and a deep, restful sleep. It is possible you will experience powerful sensations or emotions during or after a session. Your practitioner will want to hear about all your responses to the degree you are comfortable sharing them.
