Reiki Level I
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
~ Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
What is Reiki Practitioner Training?
Reiki Practitioner Training is both Reiki I and Reiki II. You can take Reiki I by itself without planning to take Reiki II. Each attunement will take you to deeper levels of integration, while working predominately on various energy levels. There is no dogma with Reiki, only simple principles. In class, you will learn Japanese Reiki techniques such as the Earth, Heaven and Heart Sensing techniques, and you will learn how to work with the original Usui principles. Even if you do not take Reiki, focusing on the five Reiki principles will dramatically enrich your life. My modern interpretation of them is below:

“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself."
What is First Degree Reiki Training?
Shoden is the Japanese word for 'first teaching' as this is the first step one takes in the ongoing journey toward self-realization through Reiki. By studying Level I Reiki, you are taking the initial step of initiation into a sacred and powerful Japanese healing practice. First degree lays the necessary groundwork in creating the open channel for Reiki to flow. The First degree initiation includes the first attunement. Each attunement is directed at raising the vibration frequency of your energy field and activating the energy centers in your body. Reiki Level I is considered the introductory level to developing therapeutic Reiki skills. This level is ideal for any individual desiring to achieve an advanced level of higher consciousness.
During this class, you will learn how to use the simple and natural method of healing that treats the whole system—yourself, others, plants, animals, the earth and the universe. The energy transfer will vitalize your body’s cells. By the end of a Reiki treatment, all body systems (glands, blood supply, nerves, and organs) are operating in a stronger and more supportative way. Delivery of the energy is standardized. Reiki energy is transferred throughout the body in three patterns: the first pattern covers the front of the torso, the second pattern is applied to the head and neck, and the third pattern covers the back. The Reiki practitioner need not know anatomical details, although continued learning is encouraged.
Energy is challenging to comprehend in all its complexities. While reading is helpful for intellectual comprehension, the actual experience itself teaches you. Therefore, the class is a combination of lecture, discussion and experience. Practice time includes giving and receiving a complete Reiki treatment using all the hand positions, the self-treatment, practice using the level I symbol, and practice using all the Japanese Reiki Techniques mentioned below. This practical experience leads to an inner understanding of energy. Much of the training is spent working from this viewpoint, teaching you to work intuitively and to bring that instinctual balance into your everyday life. We learn by doing.
Traditional Japanese Reiki techniques are taught and practiced to build on this energetic knowledge and to aid your own healing process. Reiki is a spiritual practice that is developed with the application of these techniques. Your energy will change as you receive the attunements/reijus (energy blessings) that clear the body's meridians (energy channels). The body adjusts to the energetic change with each attunement/reiju. For many students this is experienced as a connection to a 'new' world as perceptions change.
Above all, self-healing is the focus of Reiki. During this powerful experiential one-day training, you learn how to transmit Reiki energy to yourself. A wonderful result of this personal awareness is that you will also be able to facilitate healing in others. Both uses are simple, straightforward and effective. Reiki is a way of achieving harmony and balance. In the First Degree class, you will receive the Reiki I attunement, a comprehensive Level I Manual, and certification as a Level I Reiki practitioner. Usui Reiki Ryôhô Level I Training includes learning and discussing the following:
What Reiki is and how it works
After completing level I the student is expected to continue practicing daily on herself. This continues the energetic clearing, which was initiated during the training itself. The Institute offers full support to all students in the form of Reiki Shares with the availability of a teacher or a teacher-in-training whenever possible and private sessions by appointment whenever necessary.
Please commit to additional time, which should be at least one time a week for at least three weeks, to practice Reiki with one, or more, people from your Reiki class or with members of your family or friends. This additional practice is necessary to gain the experience and confidence you need to utilize fully the Reiki training.
