You are the One
Love is a choice that has no opposite. Evil is not the opposite of love—it is the absence of God, the denial of the love you are. Every choice carries consequences, but none greater than the choice to love or to deny it.
We spend much of our lives searching for role models, mentors, teachers, and gurus to guide us on our path. There is nothing wrong with this; the right person at the right time can shorten the learning curve of life’s lessons. However, it is essential to realize that, even in the absence of such a person, we can rely on ourselves. We carry everything we need to know to progress toward enlightenment. The outer world merely serves as a mirror. Alternatively, our inner world holds a magnetic force that draws to us precisely what we need to evolve to the next level.
We must let go of the belief that we must seek outside ourselves to discover what is already within.
Everyone tells us, “Seek and ye shall find,” a phrase attributed to Jesus, the disciples, and many other masters. This might give you pause. What if seeking is not external but rather a remembering of what we already are?
The soul's path is often described as a journey toward a goal, such as awakening or enlightenment. A person searches for something they believe they lack, ultimately discovering it. This discovery is frequently regarded as a happy ending. Buddha serves as an example; he sought to end suffering.
Today, most people are searching for material things—cars, houses, vacations. Although most of us know that getting what we want only makes us “happy” for a moment, that happiness soon fades until a new object of desire presents itself. However, joy is a permanent aspect of our inner selves and is not separate from us at any point. We do not have to travel to find it or imagine that it resides in some possession or person outside of ourselves. It is always within us.
The best teachers will highlight that this precious gift is something we already possess.
When we find ourselves on our path and uncertain where to turn, we can look within and seek inner guidance.
We may not know the correct answer; if we ask, let go, and patiently wait, an answer will come: that is how grace flows. The more we practice this and trust this process, the less we will look outside ourselves for teachers and guides, for we will have successfully become our own.
